The main work was done with textures to make them look photo-realistic. Here are some examples:

Then it was necessary to add dimensions to several objects: snow on roof seems flat and windows, too. First, I tried adding volumetric snow as a separate tessellated box but result was too cartoon-looking. So, I divided roof by faces and added some noise for relief.

It was nice to model an early winter � thickness of snow on roof is small (see photos in text before). Then I added relief to windows (really windows were made later but this is not important), noise to logs and hanging icicles.

Once one house was completed I returned to first sketch and tried to reproduce the initial composition. I placed boxes with same texture instead of other houses. (Church for background placed temporary.)
