After all the modeling job is finished I set up a camera to frame the bridge in the center of the scene. Placed a purple tint volume spotlight right above the trees and a yellow tint spotlight to the opposite side and the bridge.
This way I achieved the visual contrast I wanted by lighting. Added a couple of lights to light up some objects like stones or to emphasize some elements like the poles of the bridge.
The scene has a total of 5 lights for illumination. Most of the lights use Attenuation values to darken far edges of the image (Figure.4 - Lighting Setup).
The final image in wireframe and fully rendered is shown below.
