Source: Press Release
 Date: Fri Oct 04 2002
For all owners of Video Toaster [2], here comes the fifth upgrade for your favourite video hardware, this time as a free download from Newtek's site. Check the press release below for the highlights of this release...
Personally I think VT is one of those creations that proved itself over and over again over the past ten somewhat years, and revolutionized the way desktop video is done.

San Antonio, TX October 3, 2002 -- NewTek, Inc., manufacturer of industry-leading video and 3D animation products, today announced that the latest upgrade for Video Toaster [2] is available as a free download from www.NewTek.com. Because of the software-centric nature of Video Toaster [2], NewTek has been able to release five major upgrades since the launch of Video Toaster [2] in December of 2001.

This fifth free upgrade for Video Toaster [2] demonstrates both our commitment to improving this product and the power of our software-based real-time architecture. said Andrew Cross, NewTeks Senior Vice President of Engineering. With this release, weve emphasized tools to provide input/output and frame buffer support for a number of popular production packages. We also introduce a number of other new features including completely configurable and keyframeable real-time blur filter, significant audio quality improvements and much more.

Highlights of the new Video Toaster [2] release:

- Hardware Frame-Buffer support has been provided for Cayman Graphics PowerCG, Pinnacle Systems Commotion, eyeon Software's Digital Fusion, Discreet's Combustion and Discreet's 3D Studio Max.
- Native support for Video Toasters uncompressed video format, RTV has been included for Discreets 3D Studio Max. This includes full support for NTSC and PAL for clips with or without Alpha channel.
- Audio has been significantly improved throughout the suite, in both signal quality and strength.
- Improved playback of compressed audio files in ToasterEdit and ToasterDDR.
- Visual inspection of in and out points in ToasterEdits timeline view, to correspond to the similar capability in Storyboard view.
- Support for Windows Media Player 9.
- Real-time Gaussian blur filter within ToasterEdit, with separate keyframeable blurring of the Chroma, Luma, and Alpha components of the video clip.
- Hundreds of speed and work flow improvements.
