Discreet Consolidating Overseas Busines

I guess this was bound to happen, with all the market changes Discreet has decided to consolidate and centralize its overseas operations to Soho, London. They will be covering Europe, Middle East and Africa in that one location, with 30% less employees too, who will be let go. Just wonderful...

LONDON - October 24,2002-- In reaction to difficult economic conditions and shifting market dynamics towards desktop software solutions, Discreet has decided to consolidate and centralize its Systems business in Europe, Middle East and Africa to one location in Soho, London. The consolidation is expected to result in the release of 30 percent of its systems business employees in this region this fiscal year.
There are very ugly macroeconomics at this time throughout the industry, notes Paul Lypaczewski, GM of Discreet and executive VP of Autodesk, Discreets parent company. So were looking at the immediate macroeconomic conditions and also realizing that while the systems business is vital for us going forward but there are other aspects to our business and from a growth standpoint we anticipate slower growth in systems than historically because of the emerging opportunity in the areas of desktop video and the like.

In an effort to make business efficient, Discreet has organized its business over the past months into three distinct segments: the aforementioned systems business (Flame, Inferno, Flint, Smoke, Fire, Stone and Wire products along with the next generation of media architecture), 3D animation (3DS Max, Plasma, Character Studio, and G Max) and desktop video (streaming and encoding products as well as Combustion), so each market could be assessed independently. Prior to this decision, Discreet had systems division offices in other major European cities and for the other areas relied on its authorized resellers to provide sales and support. Now, Discreet sales and support throughout this region will be handled through its resellers. Discreet will maintain its employees in the software divisions throughout this region to continue to serve this growing demand.

These are challenging times and were taking the prudent steps to keep healthy in the long run, says Lypaczewski. Along with this transition, the systems group is also gearing up for the winter release of Inferno V.5, Flame V.8 and Flint V.8.
