November 13, 2003 -- NewTek today announced that it will be showing off LightWave [8] this weekend in Los Angeles. The preview version will be presented in conjunction with a meeting of the Los Angeles LightWave Users Group Nov. 16 starting at 2 p.m.

NewTek first unveiled LightWave [8] at the Siggraph convention in San Diego in July this year. LightWave [8] includes enhancements to dynamics, character animation, modeling workflow, animation workflow and texturing tools. It offers new hard body dynamics for physical simulations, as well as improved cloth and soft body dynamics. It also gains improvements to character animation with faster inverse and forward kinematics, an improved control system and dynamics for character skeletons.

Other new features include:
- Improved workflow in Layout and Modeler;
- Improved character setup workflow;
- New Particle System Tools;
- Animatable UV coordinates;
- Improvements to Lscript scripting language and to the API.

The event will be presented by visual effects artist Rob Powers and attended by various NewTek staff members, including Donna Colbach, NewTek's EVP of marketing, and Kevin Nations, NewTek's user interface designer. It will be held at the Friedman Center 3D Lab at the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens.
