 Date: Thu Dec 02 2004
December 2, 2004 - Discreet, a division of Autodesk, Inc., today announced that its 3ds max 7 software Subscription members will receive their first value-added extension of this release cycle. Called Cloth Extension, this 3D modeling addition delivers a sophisticated cloth simulation system that gives artists the creative tools to build realistic, film-quality clothing for 3D characters in Film, Television , Advertising and Games projects. With it, artists can improve their creative freedom by quickly turning modeled geometry into cloth, or easily designing/importing clothing patterns for the design of full garments for their characters.

Our Subscription customers will be the first to enjoy the benefits of the additional functionality and productivity provided by the Cloth Extension, said Martin Vann, vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for Discreet. Following on the release of 3ds max 7 software less than 45 days ago, the 3ds max Cloth Extension demonstrates Discreets ability to provide substantial value to our subscription customers through a rapid expansion of 3ds max 7 softwares capabilities. We have put in place an aggressive investment and development plan for our animation business that includes not only the addition of new functionality, but new initiatives such as Professional Services and the Discreet Digital Academy educational program, both of which were launched with the release of 3ds max 7 software.

Discreet clearly understands the needs of the artists and studios by adding key creative functionality to what is already a superb application, said Tim Miller, president of Blur Studios.

While the Cloth Extension which is based on Size8 Softwares ClothFX product is still available separately for US $595 from the Discreet Certified 3ds max Plug-in Program (DCP) through Turbo Squid, the Discreet Online Store, or via Authorized Discreet Resellers, the leading-edge cloth creation technology will now be integrated directly into 3ds max 7 software and will be delivered in January at no additional cost to valid Discreet Subscription customers.

Cloth Extension Features:
* Clothing patterns can be used as the basis for real-world clothing that reflects both fabric type and pattern

* Define or select cloth types, including silk, cotton, and wool so clothing behaves as it would in the real world

* Clothes can be tailor-made, not just baggy, draped cloth. Inner seam lines for pleats and vents are now possible

* Save and share cloth preset types to drive artist productivity and ensure that clothing is consistent when using the same fabrics on different cloths, characters, etc.

* Access most Cloth functions with MAXScript: TDs will be able to script tools to enhance their production pipelines

Close to 40,000 Discreet 3ds max software artists worldwide already recognize the benefits of the Discreet Subscription Program such as early access to new functionalities, along with the training and tutorial access and other benefits integral to the program. To date, there are six e-learning modules for Discreets 3ds max 7 software that are available free to subscription customers.

Numerous game development, film, television and advertising facilities continue to choose 3ds max software as their central 3D application for video and console game development, Hollywood film blockbusters, captivating broadcast graphics and advertising projects. Other milestones for 3ds max software in 2004 include continued adoption in the education community, from high schools to leading universities and design colleges worldwide. Over the last eighteen months, 3ds max software has been installed by over 500 new educational institutions including The Art Institutes, who purchased 4,000 licenses, and the Frank Lloyd Wright Taliesin West school of architecture.

3ds max 7 software is available for US $3,495. For an annual fee of US $440 in North America, 3ds max customers can benefit from the Discreet Subscription Program, and receive valuable web support direct from Discreet with self-paced training options, feature-rich product extensions such as the Cloth Extension introduced today and a broad range of other technology and business benefits.
