3dluvr: You have expressed interest in expanding into Matte painting. Why are you interested in becoming a Matte painter? Oh matte painting is what I've always wanted to do, as soon as I got into CG I knew that matte painting was the place for me. Not only because I admired the backgrounds done by Mullins and Dusso, but because rendering alot of details comes naturally to me. I also realize that the Matte painting industry is very difficult to reach as a painter. Because it requires extremely well developed painting skills and a very strong artistic eye. 3dluvr: How long did it take you to paint the scene? I don't know exactly, I didnt spend longer on it than an hour a day, and I didn't get to work on it every day. If I had to estimate I would say that it took me 2 days of hard work. With time and more experience I will get alot faster at this sort of work. 3dluvr: Did you find the transition to matte painting difficult? What area gave you the most problems. Doing matte painting is alot more difficult than any other type, because everything has to be photoreal. If it isn't photoreal it will just be another image in your collection. I am not happy with the result of this painting, I still see many areas that need to be fixed. I guess the most difficult area was trying to find the best composition for the scene. I played endlessly with the clouds to get the final result. Bad composition, even if the details are realistic, can ruin the picture completely. 3dluvr: How active are you in the Internet Art Community? I spend most of my spare time participating in it, when I surf the web. Only tight deadlines can keep me away from posting and reading threads on an art forum. I also am an administrator on max3d.pl the polish CG community. I have met alot of great people in the community who have helped me with my work. I really must say thanks to guys like Biglebowsky, Philip Straub, John Liberto and Roberto Campus.
