Techbits

Greg
Techbits are a brain child of Greg Hess, who initially started them on the Discreet Forum, then moved them here to a permanent home; they are gathered, (chewed up) and processed by Greg Hess and Thomas Bruno, an all around good guys, hardware experts and 3DLuVr staff/contributing authors.

Hey Guys,

Please forgive the lack of updates to techbits. There was a pretty long period of no real news, so I stopped checking for a few days, then the real job kicked in, and all this other life stuff. So here she goes again, and hopefully they'll stay pretty current (within 1-3 days).

Thanks for reading.

YS-TECH blows the hardware community...with a radical new fan design. By moving the drive motor to the edges of the fan, they're reducing noise, while simultanously increasing airflow. Genius, pure genius.

IBM produces harddrives that will work for 8 to 11 hours a day! With this amazing new technology, thousands of CG professionals will be finally be able to go home thanks to this impressive technology.

I wonder if anyone spoke to IBM's marketing department before they let loose this information.

Creative Labs buys 3dlabs. Entire workstation community gasps in anguish as one of the founders of opengl is put under one of the worst company names in the business. The list of companies Creative Labs has destroyed through purchasing is long and harsh. Lets hope 3dlabs doesn't join the discarded graveyard of forgotten technology.

Thoroughbred processors to be released later this month, providing another long stream of fpu annilators onto the market. As mentioned before, make sure the motherboard you buy today, is Tbred ready...otherwise you'll be stuck at 2100+ XP while your friend runs happily along at 2800+.

Apple G4's utterly decimated by 18 month old Pentium. Story at 11.

Seriously though, the utter pathetic fpu power of the G4 really begs the question...why are people porting cg apps to it?

The 2100+ XP. King of the mountain? Only time will tell. But one thing's for sure, its arrival on the battlefield means price cut city =).

Did I mention 2000+ MP's? Look for a review shortly.

Girlfriend wants a mac? Stop the insanity by wooing her with a Polo-T. Cheaper then a rackmount, and supposedly able to take the new FlexATX KT333 Via motherboards. Render Cubes anyone?
