Techbits

Greg
Techbits are a brain child of Greg Hess, who initially started them on the Discreet Forum, then moved them here to a permanent home; they are gathered, (chewed up) and processed by Greg Hess and Thomas Bruno, an all around good guys, hardware experts and 3DLuVr staff/contributing authors.

PC3000. Just kinda of rolls off the tongue doesn't it? Tech report gives some of the fastest DDR on the market a once over, and they come out drooling.

Intel's Dual Channel DDR chipset...for xeons. Its interesting to note, that while Intel finally acknowledged the issues plaguing rambus, all the tech sites are now noticing that rambus seems to offer a 10-15% performance advantage over DDR when the chips scale past 2.4 Ghz. We could be seeing a resurgance of the great Rambust.

New Xeon chips code named...Prestonia. Features 512k of l2 cache (oh baby), and Hyperthreading technology, this press release reads like your local monster truck competition. Bottom line? Same core technology, with performance improvments that look good in intel's benchmarks (Of course they look good. Intel's benching them). Only time will tell if these new xeons push the performance lead back into intel's hand.

Competition. The war never ends between rival companies, this time nvidia responds to the new Wildcat III with tactical nuclear weapons. Are they fighting fair? =)

AMD made some minor adjustments to their roadmap this year, so if you haven't been paying attention and may be looking to purchase in the future, its a good time to check it out.

Tired of Creative BS? Break the monopoly. Use linux with a non creative card =). Active hardware takes a roll in bringing information on the new phillips edge sound card.
