Techbits

Greg
Techbits are a brain child of Greg Hess, who initially started them on the Discreet Forum, then moved them here to a permanent home; they are gathered, (chewed up) and processed by Greg Hess and Thomas Bruno, an all around good guys, hardware experts and 3DLuVr staff/contributing authors.

Leadtek annouces NV18 and NV28 cards
Leadtek's A280 (NV28) and the A180 (NV18) cards, with the first one apparently running at 270MHz from the original 250MHz, are both both 8x AGP capable, and should provide for some additional performance.

333MHz FSB for Athlon coming in October
So, early October we can expect to see new AMD XP 2700+ and XP 2800+ running at 333MHz FSB, on the Thoroughbread core. Along with this support for DDR333 will come, and according to AMD, users will enjoy additional 8% performance increase over 266 FSB and DDR266.
Boy, I don't know how I survived without those 8% all this time. Does this really warrant buying another motherboard and upgrading the cpu for couple of more Mhz (don't forget you need to get DDR333 too)?

Nvidia to reveal NV30 at the Fall COMDEX
At the Fall COMDEX in Las Vegas, from 18th to 22nd of November, Nvidia is expected to reveal their latest graphics processor, the NV30.
No official name has been announced for NV30, but it is supposedly based on .13 micron die technology with frequencies up to 400 MHz. We can only hope it will kick butt just like the others did :)

Anandtech Tours ATI and Nvidia
A 10 page article, Anandtech visit to ATI and Nvidia headquarters. Lots of photos from Nvidia, none from ATI (as if they had something to hide? you can't invent hot water but they don't know that yet!)
Sadly no photos of people or cubicles of normal programmers and other engineers, though some interesting machinery at Nvidia. Worth a read...

Glitch with Pioneer DVD recorders - firmware upgrade required
According to Pioneer there seems to be a serious glitch with their series of DVD Recorders when using new high speed dvd-r blanks that could lead to the laser within the unit permanently damaging an important optical lens inside.
If you own one of these recorders, head over to Pioneer's site and download the free firmware update.

ABIT system brings high performance to budget GeForce4
ABIT is making a play for the high performance graphics market with a new cooling system that it claims will allow you to push performance of a GeForce4 Ti4200 chip up to the level of a Ti4600. The company has just completed a European tour extolling the virtues of the Siluro GF4 Ti4200 OTES, which will be available on 23rd September, and expects a UK street price for the card below L150, so you get Ti4600 for about half the price.
